Surround® WP Crop Protectant
Surround® WP is an OMRI Listed®, USDA-developed crop protectant made from calcined kaolin clay. When mixed with water and sprayed onto plants, it forms a porous white particle film that discourages insect activity, protects plants from sunburn, and reduces heat stress. The protective coating camouflages host plants while creating a physical and tactile barrier that interferes with insect movement, feeding, and egg-laying.
Made from natural kaolin clay, Surround® WP delivers broad-spectrum crop protection without conventional pesticides. The white particle film creates an unfavorable surface for insects and mites while helping shield plants from excessive sunlight and heat. It effectively protects apples, pears, peaches, citrus, berries, vegetables, and many field crops. For the best results, apply Surround® WP before pests become active.
Key Benefits & Uses
Deter Insect Pests
Surround® WP creates a protective clay barrier that irritates insects, disguises host plants, and discourages pests from feeding, landing, or laying eggs. It provides excellent protection against flea beetles, Japanese beetles, mites, codling moths, psylla, and many other insect pests.
Protect Against Sunburn and Heat Stress
The reflective white film blocks ultraviolet and infrared radiation, lowering plant canopy temperatures by 7°–12°F. By reducing heat buildup, Surround® WP helps minimize sunburn damage by as much as 50% while improving fruit quality during periods of intense summer heat.
Support Healthy Plant Growth
The highly porous particle film allows leaves to exchange gases and continue photosynthesis while protecting plants from environmental stress. As a result, plants remain healthier and more productive throughout the growing season.
How to Apply
Mixing Rate: Mix ¼–½ pound of Surround® WP with 1 gallon of water.
Application Timing: Apply before insect populations arrive or before periods of intense summer heat. Reapply every 7–21 days, depending on weather conditions, rainfall, and new plant growth.
Application Tips: Thoroughly coat all foliage and fruit until covered with a uniform white film. Avoid spraying when bees and other pollinators are actively foraging.
